Radar

Live rain radar for more than 3,300 cities and regions across 80 countries. Use the map below for anywhere on Earth, or browse to your own location.

How to Use This Directory

The map above covers the whole planet — drag, zoom, or press Use My Location to centre it on you. The country listing further down goes one step further: each location page opens with the radar already framed on that city, alongside notes on the local rainfall climate.

Pick whichever is faster. The map is better for watching a system move across a region; a location page is better when you want the same place repeatedly and do not want to re-position the map each time.

Radar Coverage Is Not the Same Everywhere

It is worth knowing what is behind the picture, because quality varies enormously by region and this is the single biggest reason radar looks different from one country to another.

Dense national networks

The United States, Japan, and most of Europe have the best coverage in the world. Radars overlap, gaps are rare, and detail is fine enough to resolve individual showers. Europe is a special case: through EUMETNET’s OPERA programme, more than 200 radars across 30+ countries are combined into a single continent-wide composite, so storms are tracked continuously across national borders rather than stopping at them. Our Europe rain radar page covers that in detail.

Good coverage with gaps

Australia, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and parts of South America and South-East Asia have solid radar around populated areas, thinning across interiors. Canada’s north and Australia’s centre have far fewer stations than their coasts.

Satellite-dependent regions

Across much of Africa, central Asia, and the open oceans there is little or no ground radar. Precipitation there is estimated from satellite instead — still useful, but coarser, slightly delayed, and inferred from cloud properties rather than measured directly. If detail looks blurrier over these regions, that is why, not a fault in the map.

The distinction is explained further in radar vs. satellite.

Reading a Location Page

Each city page shows the same radar imagery, framed locally, plus context on that area’s rainfall pattern — whether it has a monsoon, a dry summer, a thunderstorm season, or year-round rain. Three things are worth checking in order: whether anything is over you now, what is upwind, and how fast it is moving. A band closing 20 km in ten minutes of animation gives you roughly half an hour.

If radar shows rain and your ground is dry, the map is usually still right — the rain is often evaporating before it lands, or the beam is scanning above your local weather. See how accurate is rain radar.

Not a Warning Service

RainyMap shows current conditions. It does not issue warnings and should never be your only source when safety is involved. For severe weather, flooding or storms, follow your national meteorological service and local emergency authorities — their alerts take precedence over anything shown here. Frequently Asked Questions

How many locations does RainyMap cover?

More than 3,300 city and region pages across 80 countries, each opening with live radar framed on that location. The world map covers everywhere else, including areas without a dedicated page.

Is there rain radar for my country?

The live map covers the entire planet. Dedicated location pages exist for 80 countries, listed below. Where a country has no ground radar network, precipitation is estimated from satellite rather than measured directly by radar.

Why is radar detail better in some countries than others?

Because radar requires ground stations, and their density varies enormously. The United States, Japan and Europe have dense overlapping networks, while much of Africa, central Asia and the open oceans rely on satellite estimates, which are coarser and slightly delayed.

How often does the radar update?

Every few minutes. Most national radar networks complete a full scan cycle every 5 to 10 minutes, and the map refreshes as new scans arrive.

Is RainyMap radar free to use?

Yes, entirely. No account, no app download, and no premium tier. Every location page and every map layer is free in any browser.

Can I see rain radar for my exact location?

Yes. Press Use My Location on the map above and your browser will ask permission to share your position, centring the radar on you at street level. The coordinates are used in your browser only and are not stored on our servers.

Other Live Maps

Rain is one layer. RainyMap also has live wind, lightning, temperature and air quality maps, plus a 7-day forecast. To answer a question directly, see where is it raining right now or run a rainfall check.
