Live Rain Radar for Barcelona, Catalonia

← Catalonia, Spain

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate with around 640 mm (about 25 inches) of rain a year, concentrated mainly in autumn with a long, dry summer typical of the region. Autumn storms here, sometimes called “gota fria” events, can be extremely intense, dropping a significant share of the annual total in a single day and causing flash flooding in the city’s many small, steep drainage channels (rieras) that are dry the rest of the year. Because these storms can escalate quickly after months without meaningful rain, radar tracking during autumn is one of the more practical tools residents use. Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET, operates the national radar network covering Catalonia.
