Live Rain Radar for Rome, Lazio

← Lazio, Italy

Rome has a classic Mediterranean climate, with roughly 800 mm (about 31 inches) of rain a year concentrated heavily in the autumn and winter months, while summer is reliably hot and dry. Autumn is when the most intense rain events tend to occur, sometimes as fast-moving Mediterranean storm systems that can drop a significant amount of rain in a short period, occasionally causing localized flooding along the Tiber and in low-lying parts of the historic center. Because the dry summer leaves soils and drainage systems less prepared for sudden autumn downpours, the seasonal shift itself is often the riskiest period rather than the depth of winter. Short, intense convective storms are also common in early autumn, building quickly on humid, unsettled days. Italy’s national meteorological network, coordinated through the Italian Air Force and regional civil protection agencies, provides radar coverage across the Lazio region.
