Fort Worth, part of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, shares much of the same North Texas severe-weather climate as Dallas, receiving around 970 mm (about 38 inches) of rain a year with spring bringing the most active thunderstorm and tornado season. The Trinity River running through the city has a documented flood history, prompting significant levee and floodway construction that still defines parts of downtown today. Fast-developing spring supercell thunderstorms remain the primary hazard, capable of large hail and damaging wind alongside heavy rain. Because North Texas severe weather can intensify with real speed, radar tracking is a genuinely essential everyday spring tool. NWS Doppler radar KFWS (Dallas/Fort Worth) covers the region.
