Kumanovo, in northeastern North Macedonia close to the Serbian border, receives around 550 mm (about 22 inches) of rain a year, with a summer peak from convective thunderstorms typical of the region’s climate. The Kumanovska river running through the area has a generally modest flow, meaning fast-developing local summer storms are the more immediate weather hazard rather than large-scale flooding. Hail is a recognized risk for the surrounding farmland during the most intense cells. Because these storms can build quickly on an otherwise calm summer day, radar tracking remains a genuinely practical tool for residents and farmers. North Macedonia’s Hydrometeorological Service operates the national radar network.
