Live Rain Radar for Valletta, South Eastern Region

← South Eastern Region, Malta

Valletta, Malta’s capital, receives around 550 mm (about 22 inches) of rain a year, concentrated almost entirely in autumn and winter with a long, dry, hot Mediterranean summer typical of the small island nation. Because the island is so densely built and has limited natural drainage, intense autumn and winter storms can cause significant flash flooding in low-lying streets, a well-recognized recurring hazard given how little rain the city sees the rest of the year. Being surrounded by the sea on all sides, Malta is also exposed to occasional intense Mediterranean storm systems. Because rain here is infrequent but potentially intense, radar is a genuinely useful tool during the wetter months. Malta’s national meteorological office operates the country’s weather radar.
