Live Rain Radar for Szeged, Csongrad-Csanad County

← Csongrad-Csanad County, Hungary

Szeged sits at the confluence of the Tisza and Maros rivers in southern Hungary and receives around 570 mm (about 22 inches) of rain a year. The Tisza has a documented history of catastrophic flooding, most notably in 1879 when a flood destroyed almost the entire city, an event that led to Szeged being completely rebuilt with substantially higher, stronger flood defenses that remain central to the city’s identity today. Faster summer convective storms are a separate, more immediate hazard for daily life. Because the city’s history is so closely tied to river flood risk specifically, radar’s main practical value today is tracking the faster local storms rather than the river’s longer flood cycle. Hungary’s Meteorological Service operates the national radar network.
