Live Rain Radar for Tampere, Pirkanmaa

← Pirkanmaa, Finland

Tampere, in southern Finland’s lake district, receives around 600 mm (about 24 inches) of rain a year, slightly less than coastal Helsinki, reflecting its more inland position between two large lakes. Rain is fairly evenly distributed through the year, with a modest summer peak from convective storms. The surrounding lakes moderate local weather somewhat and can also influence exactly where summer thunderstorms build and move. Because the lake district’s terrain creates genuine local variation in rainfall, radar gives residents a clearer real-time picture than a broader regional forecast. Finland’s Meteorological Institute operates the national radar network covering the region.
