Live Rain Radar for Liege, Liege Province

← Liege Province, Belgium

Liège sits on the Meuse river in eastern Belgium, close to the Ardennes hills, and receives around 850 mm (about 33 inches) of rain a year. The wider region gained tragic international attention during the July 2021 floods, when extreme, prolonged rainfall across the Meuse and Vesdre river valleys caused catastrophic flooding that destroyed entire neighborhoods and killed dozens of people, one of the worst natural disasters in the country’s modern history. That event underscored how quickly rainfall in the surrounding hilly terrain can translate into fast-rising river levels in the valleys below. Because of this well-documented vulnerability, radar tracking of approaching heavy rain bands is now treated as a genuinely critical tool by regional authorities and residents alike. Belgium’s Royal Meteorological Institute operates the national radar network.
