Live Rain Radar for Ghent, East Flanders

← East Flanders, Belgium

Ghent, in northern Belgium, receives around 780 mm (about 31 inches) of rain a year, fairly evenly spread across the seasons in keeping with the broader Belgian climate. The city’s historic canal and river network, once central to its role as a major medieval trading city, still plays a genuine role in managing routine rainfall today. Short, sharp showers passing through quickly are more common than sustained heavy rain, though summer thunderstorms can occasionally cause localized flooding. Because Ghent’s weather can shift from clear to wet within the hour, much like the rest of Belgium, radar remains a practical everyday tool for the city’s large student and cycling population. Belgium’s Royal Meteorological Institute operates the national radar network.
