Vlorë, on Albania’s southern Adriatic and Ionian coast, has a Mediterranean climate with around 1,100 mm (about 43 inches) of rain a year, concentrated mainly in autumn and winter with a long, dry, tourist-season summer. The surrounding mountains close to the coast can intensify autumn storms, occasionally triggering flash flooding and landslides on the steep terrain nearby. As a growing beach tourism hub, sudden shifts in weather matter significantly for the local seasonal economy. Because conditions here can change quickly once the wet season arrives, radar tracking is a genuinely practical tool for both residents and visitors. Albania’s national meteorological institute operates the radar network.
