Live Rain Radar for Milan, Lombardy

← Lombardy, Italy

Milan sits in Italy’s Po Valley and receives around 1,000 mm (about 39 inches) of rain a year, more than many Italian cities further south, with peaks in spring and autumn driven by the valley’s tendency to trap and intensify weather systems moving down from the Alps. Summer thunderstorms can be severe, occasionally producing large hail and flash flooding in a city whose extensive paved, historic center has limited natural drainage. The surrounding flat valley terrain also makes the region prone to fog in the cooler months, a separate but locally significant hazard. Because intense summer storms here can build quickly, radar is a practical tool for both residents and the city’s extensive outdoor event calendar. Italy’s national meteorological network provides regional radar coverage.
