Live Rain Radar for Banja Luka, Republika Srpska

← Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Banja Luka, in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Vrbas river, receives around 1,100 mm (about 43 inches) of rain a year, with a fairly even seasonal spread and a modest early-summer peak from convective storms. The Vrbas has a history of flooding during periods of sustained heavy regional rain, including during the severe 2014 Balkan floods that affected much of the wider region. Faster, more localized summer thunderstorms remain a separate, more routine hazard for the city. Because both risks matter but unfold so differently, radar is most useful for tracking the faster local storms. The Hydrometeorological Institute of Republika Srpska operates regional radar coverage.
