Live Rain Radar for Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Peninsula

← Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines

Zamboanga City sits in Mindanao, which lies south of the Philippines’ main typhoon belt and sees far fewer direct typhoon strikes than Luzon or the Visayas, though the island still receives substantial rainfall from the monsoon and occasional tropical storms that do reach this far south.

On Mindanao’s western peninsula, the city sees less typhoon exposure than the rest of the Philippines but still receives substantial monsoon rainfall. Tropical Storm Washi in 2011, which caused catastrophic flooding in Cagayan de Oro despite Mindanao’s relative typhoon shelter, showed that even a storm well below typhoon strength can be devastating here, and radar remains an important tool for catching these less common but dangerous systems.
