Vadodara sits along the Vishwamitri River in central Gujarat and receives most of its roughly 900 mm of annual rainfall during the June-September southwest monsoon. The river runs directly through the city and has a history of overflowing its banks during unusually heavy spells, most notably during severe flooding in 2019 that affected residential areas near the riverbanks. Because the Vishwamitri’s catchment can fill quickly after intense upstream rain, radar coverage of the wider region is useful for anticipating river-level rises.
