Hyderabad’s climate sits at the boundary between the drier Deccan interior and the wetter coastal belt, giving it a moderate southwest monsoon season from June through September that accounts for most of its annual rainfall. The city is built around numerous natural and artificial lakes, including the historic Hussain Sagar, originally designed to manage runoff but now facing pressure from encroachment and reduced capacity. Sudden intense spells during July and August can raise lake levels quickly and back up drainage in low-lying areas near the old city.
