Live Rain Radar for Detroit, Michigan

← Michigan, United States

Detroit receives around 840 mm (about 33 inches) of rain a year, fairly evenly spread across the seasons, with lake-effect influence from nearby Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair shaping local weather patterns in ways that can differ from inland Michigan. Summer thunderstorms are the main source of sudden, intense rainfall, and the city’s aging combined sewer system has struggled with major flash-flooding events in recent years when short bursts of extremely heavy rain overwhelmed drainage capacity across large parts of the metro area. Because these storms can develop quickly and the drainage system has limited margin, radar tracking is a genuinely practical everyday summer tool. NWS Doppler radar KDTX (Detroit/White Lake) covers the region.
