Live Rain Radar for Coimbra, Coimbra District

← Coimbra District, Portugal

Coimbra sits on the Mondego river in central Portugal and receives around 900 mm (about 35 inches) of rain a year, with a clear wet season from October through April and a dry summer. The Mondego has flooded the lower parts of the historic city in the past during periods of prolonged heavy rain, prompting significant flood-control investment along the riverbanks in recent decades. Rain here typically arrives with Atlantic frontal systems bringing sustained moderate showers rather than short, violent downpours. Because the transition from the dry summer to the first autumn rains tends to be the highest-risk period for sudden runoff, radar tracking during that seasonal shift is particularly useful. Portugal’s IPMA operates the national radar network.
